Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE); Limited Submission Competition, internal applications due Monday, July 11th.

June 23, 2016
Dear Colleagues;

The National Science Foundation has just released this year’s Program Announcement for the Partnerships for International Research and Education (PIRE) Award. (see below).  PIRE supports international activities across all NSF-supported disciplines. The primary goal is to support high quality projects in which advances in research and education could not occur without international collaboration. There is a required pre-proposal due to the NSF September 14, 2016.

This is a Limited Submission competition under which a single institution may submit one preliminary proposal as the lead institution. Full proposals will be accepted by invitation only. There is no limit on the number of proposals in which an institution can participate as a partner, or on the number of proposals that an individual can participate on as a co-PI.

UC Merced Research Development Services (RDS) will be including an announcement for the internal competition for this Limited Submission opportunity in its next round of opportunities to be released early next week. The internal competition for PIRE will be open and posted on our UC Merced website at our Limited Submission portal no later than Tuesday June 21, 2016:

In the interim, however, as this is a complex opportunity that requires international collaboration we encourage you to review the opportunity and to begin to plan potential collaborations if of interest. In that regard, the deadline for UC Merced faculty to submit applications to the internal competition via the RDS Limited Submission process will be Monday July 11th, 2016 (internal proposals cannot be submitted until the competition is opened next week).

Please let a me or a member of the RDS staff know if you have any questions about this opportunity.

Best;

Susan
