Two Faculty Success Initiatives were launched in Fall 2019: Pre-submission Review Program (PRP) & Extramural Funding Fellowship (EFF).
The Pre-submission Review Program (PRP) provides support for faculty who wish to have their grant proposal reviewed externally prior to submission. Pre-submission reviews have been shown to improve proposal quality and increase the probability that a proposal will be recommended for funding. The PRP program is structured such that faculty identify potential reviewers and then initiate contact and participate in all follow-through. In this way, faculty may also benefit from new networks, collaborations and potential mentors.
UC Merced will pay each external reviewer $400 in compensation for their time.

The Extramural Funding Fellows Program launched in January 2020, with an inaugural cohort of 15 faculty fellows from a variety of departments, selected from the applicant pool to learn key ways to synthesize their work for wider audiences. The aim of the program is to support faculty in the pursuit of extramural funding, with the goal of growing the university’s research enterprise, advancing concepts in science and enhancing national health and welfare.
These FSI programs are jointly sponsored by the Office of Research & Economic Development (ORED), School of Natural Sciences (SNS), School of Engineering (SOE), School of Humanities, Arts and Humanities (SSHA), Health Sciences Research Institute (HSRI), Sierra Nevada Research Institute (SNRI), and The Center of Information Technology Research in the Interest of Society (CITRIS).
