CBCRP: Join us during our fall 2015 California Tour

September 29, 2015 - 9:00am

Are you concerned about breast cancer? Confused about who should get a mammogram? Worried about whether your household products are exposing you to harmful chemicals? Is the air you breathe or the water you drink increasing your risk? Can race and ethnicity influence breast cancer? Is your job putting you at risk?

CBCRP, in partnership with Commonweal and Plumbline Consulting and local co-sponsors, will be hosting workshops across the state in September, October and November to answer some of these questions These workshops, called “Who Gets Breast Cancer & Why: A Workshop on Environment, Disparities & Breast Cancer” is part of an effort to reconnect with community members and scientists we already know, as well as to give people new to CBCRP a sense of who we are, what we do and how to get involved in the effort to prevent breast cancer. We will focus on:

  • environmental exposures and disparities, such as the stress of racism and poverty, and how they can increase a woman’s risk for breast cancer,
  • more equitable ways communities can partner with scientists with the support of a funder that values genuine collaboration, and
  • funding opportunities for communities, nonprofits, support groups and scientists to get involved in preventing breast cancer.

If you are interested in joining us, please RSVP for one of the cities below. And please help us spread the word by inviting others who you think would be interested in getting to know CBCRP’s work.

Nearly 200,000 California women are living with breast cancer, but many of them had no known risk factors. We need everyone to get involved in preventing the disease. These workshops will help new and experienced people in the world of breast cancer explore ways to get involved.

The workshops are free and open to the public.
