New Funding Opportunities – California Breast Cancer Prevention Initiatives
October 6, 2016 – Application Deadline

We developed the California Breast Cancer Prevention Initiatives (CBCPI) to stimulate compelling and innovative research to identify and eliminate disparities/inequities in the burden of breast cancer and the environmental causes of the disease. The initiatives support discoveries of population-level interventions for known or suspected breast cancer risk factors and protective measures and in targeted interventions for high risk individuals.

Funding is now available for two initiatives designed to contribute to these goals:

Animal Studies to Investigate Concurrent Effects of Environmental Chemicals and Stress Factors on Mammary Cancer which aims to investigate the combined effect of environmental chemicals and stress factors on the development of mammary cancer using animal models. Up to two awards for up to $625,000 each in direct costs will be funded under this initiative.

Pilot Studies to Prevent Developmental Exposure to Ionizing Radiation from Medical Imaging which aims to demonstrate the efficacy and feasibility of an intervention to prevent exposure among girls to ionizing radiation from medical imaging in California. Up to three pilot studies for $150,000 each in direct costs will be funded under this initiative.

Visit our website at www.cbcrp.org/funding-opportunities/sri/index.html to learn more about each of these initiatives and view the archived informational webinars.

Funding Opportunity - Community Research Collaboration Awards
October 24, 2016 – Optional Pre-application Research Plan Deadline
March 9, 2017—Application Deadline
Since 1997, our Community Research Collaboration (CRC) awards have funded community organizations — such as breast cancer advocacy organizations, community clinics and other organizations serving women with breast cancer — to work in teams with well-trained, experienced research scientists. Together, the teams decide which breast cancer questions are most important to them, determine how to study these questions, gather and interpret data, and communicate findings to other community members, scientists, and the public.
We offer technical assistance to potential applicants who want help with preparing the Community Research Collaboration (CRC) application.  Visitwww.cabreastcancer.org/funding-opportunities/crc/crc-guidance-and-assistance.html to learn about how to take advantage of our one-on-one technical assistance, the optional pre-application research plan review, and archived “How to Apply” webinars.
Application materials will be available in December 2016.

Funding Opportunities – Investigator Initiated Awards
October 27, 2016—LOI Deadline for IDEA and Translational Research Awards
Applications are open for Innovative, Developmental and Exploratory Awards (IDEAs) that challenge existing paradigms, represent a new direction for the PI, and incorporate techniques and approaches not yet well represented in mainstream breast cancer research. We encourage researchers to attempt breakthroughs that, if successful, could be leveraged into more substantial funding. Both established researchers and new investigators are welcome to apply.
Translational Research applications are invited that have the potential for major impact in the areas of prevention, detection, diagnosis or treatment of breast cancer; improved quality of life for survivors; reduction in the community and social burden caused by the disease in California; or advances in medical practices, health systems changes, health policies or environmental modifications.
Letter of Intent application materials are available now onproposalCENTRAL.

Funding Opportunity - Conferences for Breast Cancer Engagement
November 3, 2016—Application Deadline
At least one major objective of the conference or event must focus on breast cancer, and at least 50 percent of the event must be devoted to accomplishing the breast cancer objective(s). Funding preference will be given to events that bring together people with different perspectives who do not usually meet and exchange views and to events that are more likely to lead to new research projects and new collaborations.
Application materials are available now on proposalCENTRAL..

CBCRP is a Good Investment
When considering your charitable giving, think of the CBCRP. Money magazine identified us as one of five charitable organizations that are making the biggest impact against breast cancer, so you know that your contributions will be put to good use.
There are many ways to contribute to CBCRP:
·         Make “California Breast Cancer Research Program” your support recipient on Amazon Smile
